La Quinta residents gather to remember 9/11
Dozens of people gathered in front of the 9/11 memorial in La Quinta Monday evening to remember those killed in the worst terror attack in American history.
Electric candles lit the night as folks took to the podium to share where they were on the morning on September 11th.
First responders were thanked for the hard work and dangers they continue to face.
Along with the almost 3,000 people who died on 9/11, thousands more died from cancer and the ailments from being in the rubble.
One of the speakers at the event was Burt Upson of Palm Desert. He was in the south tower of the World Trade Center on 9/11 and barely escaped with his life.
“Tonight was the prime example of the bonding and the value of lives of other people who gave their lives so they could live,” Upson said.
This is the fourth year the 9/11 memorial has been in place at the Civic Center in La Quinta.
