TRAFFIC ALERT: Construction closes I-10 in Indio
UPDATE at 5:50 a.m.: Interstate 10 eastbound lanes were reopened and traffic congestion was clearing.

Motorists were being detoured off Interstate 10 early Tuesday morning in Indio as construction crews continued work to build the new Jefferson Street interchange.
The freeway’s eastbound lanes were shut down at the Jefferson exit, and traffic was detoured to Avenue 42, then back onto the freeway at Monroe Street.
Traffic was backing up to Washington Street as of 5:30 a.m.
Westbound freeway lanes were open.
The roadwork was expected to be completed by 6:00 a.m.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held August 17 and attended by local representatives to celebrate the interchange’s near completion.
