Award-winning singer Keely Smith dies of heart failure at 89
Grammy award-winning pop and jazz singer and Palm Springs resident Keely Smith has died.
Smith’s publicist said she was under physician’s care when she died.
Smith was born Dorothy Jacqueline Keely in Virginia.
Her career spanned seven decades, and included hits like “Palm Springs Jump”.
“She was just a really good singer all together, and I am very proud that I had the pleasure of knowing her seeing her growing up with her we were both quite young when we first met,” said Roberta Linn, a close friend and fellow Vegas lounge singer.
“Keely had been dealing with and was sick for quite a while with Alzheimer’s and that’s a terrible disease,” Linn said.
Smith performed with other singers, including Louis Prima and Frank Sinatra and got a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars in 1998.
She also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Smith was 89 years old and is survived by her two children.
