Local church releases statement about council member passing
On Monday, a post written by Pastor Pamela Chesterman of Calvary Christian Center let the Cathedral City community know that former Cathedral City Council Member Chuck Vasquez had passed. On Wednesday morning, a statement was released on the church’s behalf on Vasquez’s death.
“Chuck was well known for his involvement in the community. He had a knack for spotting needs and finding ways to address those needs,” read the statement. “Six years on City Council made him very familiar with our city, and those kinds of opportunities.”
Vasquez, 63, died while recovering from a Feb. 5 double bypass surgery at Eisenhower Hospital. He posted to his Facebook page that he was going through a complicated recovery process.
“Charles “Chuck” Vasquez had been a member of CCC since 2010… In 2012, Chuck officially became the director of the Chayil Mens Recovery Program, and found his real calling…Chuck recently told someone, ‘I exist to move people closer to God.’ Chuck’s ‘home-going’ will leave a void in our community!” read the statement.
In 2014, Vasquez resigned from City Council after pleading guilty to embezzling funds from an employee loan program. He was sentenced to three years probation.
