Riverside County ranked 3rd-fastest growing large county in U.S.
Riverside County ranked No. 3 in population growth among large counties nationwide, according to a U.S. Census Bureau report released today.
Figures showed that during the 12-month period ending July 1, 2017, the county’s population expanded by 36,744 people, a 1.5 percent increase compared to the estimated population size in June 2016.
The numeric growth was topped only by Maricopa County, Arizona, where the population swelled by 73,650 — the largest growth in the country — during the same period, and Clark County, Nevada, which expanded by 47,355, the secondlargest growth in raw numbers, according to the Census Bureau.
Riverside County ranked No. 6 in the 2015-16 census report, released last year.
The county was the only one in California to make the top 10 for largest gainers in the latest report.
Among the most populous counties nationally, Riverside ranked No. 10 for total population as of July 1, 2017, with an estimated 2,423,266 people.
That compares to an estimated population of 2,386,522 in June 2016.
Also in the top 10 for most populous counties in the country were Los Angeles at No. 1, San Diego at No. 5, and Orange at No. 6.
The Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario metropolitan statistical area ranked No. 7 among the top 10 highest gaining metro areas in terms of population for the 2016-17 period. The Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario MSA was at No. 13 in the prior analysis for 2015-16, according to federal officials.
The metro area’s population was 4,580,670 in the 12-month period ending July 1, 2017. In June 2016, the population was 4,523,653, representing a year-over-year growth rate of roughly 1 percent.
The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington MSA landed in the top spot for largest gains, adding 146,238 people in the 2016-17 period, for a total population of 7,399,662.
No other metro area in California landed in the largest gaining category. However, among
most populous MSAs, the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheimmetro area ranked No. 2 in the nation with 13,353,907 people.
The Census Bureau’s analysis covered 3,142 counties and 382 metropolitan areas.
