Desert residents prepare for monsoonal weather

Some locals got to enjoy overnight showers in parts of the valley Monday night. The monsoonal weather serving as a reminder for drivers to be prepared for pop-up storms.

Cal Trans released a warning to drivers reminding them to check windshield wipers, tires, and brakes. Some say they are going to avoid roads all-together.

“If there’s rain or monsoon. I’m going to be in trouble. I’ll just pull over and it let pass by. I’ve gone too far in life to kill myself,” said Palm Desert resident Paul Anthony Kenworthy.

It’s not just the weather on the road residents have to worry about, some are dealing with the weather in their own living rooms.

“It doesn’t work when it’s 65 percent humid. it works as a fan only. but it only blows the hot air around,” said Palm Desert resident Lynne Maree, referring to her swamp cooler.

The high humidity is making it tough for water to be evaporated which is why some people are putting their swamp coolers to rest these next few days

A spokesperson for the Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District are asking people to drain out their swamp coolers if not in use. Stagnant water can be a breeding zone for mosquitos, especially in humid temperatures.
