Grandfather arrested in accidental shooting death of 2-year-old
Police have arrested the grandfather of a 2-year-old toddler who was accidentally shot and killed by her 4-year-old cousin after getting ahold of the grandfather’s gun.
At Friday at 9:16 a.m., San Bernardino Sheriff’s deputies and medical aid responded to reports of a shooting at a home in Muscoy. Deputies say they found the 2-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead at 10:02 a.m.
Investigators learned the 4-year-old accidentally shot the 2-year-old with a handgun and interviewed several people who were at the home at the time of the shooting.
Investigators determined that the toddler’s grandfather, Cesar Lopez, left the gun in an area that was accessible to the children. Lopez was arrested and will be booked for child endangerment and felon in possession of a firearm.
