TRAFFIC ALERT: Freeway clearing after morning work slows traffic in Indio
Congestion was clearing at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday morning after freeway construction backing up traffic for approximately a mile in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 in Indio. The slowdown was just west of the Monroe Street Interchange.
It’s a new location from this week’s earlier work near Jefferson Street and Washington Street.
Two eastbound traffic lanes were closed on the freeway at Monroe Street, about two miles east of Jefferson, as crews performed concrete repairs.
The overnight work was scheduled to be completed by 4:00 a.m., but work appeared to be continuing as of 6:15 a.m.
Eastbound freeway traffic was backed up approximately a mile toward the Jefferson Street interchange.
Westbound traffic was not being impacted by the road work.
Take an alternate route to avoid this slowdown if you can.
Caltrans said the work is part of an ongoing pavement replacement program repairing nearly 150 miles throughout the Coachella Valley.
The $17 million, seven-month project began in July and was initially beset by problems with collisions in the traffic backup.
On October 18, the CHP issued a SigAlert in both directions of the freeway at Washington Street due to numerous collisions in an area where traffic was backed up due to the construction work.
