Man charged for allegedly firing gun in Coachella, triggering standoff
A man who allegedly fired a gunshot inside his Coachella home, then refused to surrender for about two hours, was charged today with felony and misdemeanor counts of negligent discharge of a firearm and weapons possession.
A Jan. 8 felony settlement conference was set for Francisco Plazola-Madrid, 34, who pleaded not guilty to the charges. He’s being held in lieu of $10,000 bail, but prosecutors are expected to present a motion Friday to increase his bail.
No one was struck by the Friday morning gunfire or injured in the ensuing standoff at the defendant’s home in the 50100 block of Goya Drive.
Sheriff’s deputies were sent to the residence at 6:37 a.m. Madrid refused their instructions to come outside, prompting deputies to establish a perimeter around the home and evacuate neighboring residences, according to the sheriff’s department. The standoff ended peacefully about two hours later.
