Gang member arrested after illegally entering United States

Border patrol agents arrested a gang member in Calexico Saturday morning.

Agents saw a man, later identified as a 28-year-old Mexican national, illegally enter the United States half a mile east of the Calexico West Port of Entry, according to a news release by El Centro Sector Border Patrol

Record checks revealed the man had an extensive criminal record, including a felony burglary charge. Agents added that he is a “self-admitted Sureño gang member out of San Mateo, California” who had been previously removed from the country by an immigration judge.

The man had an active warrant in Redwood City for a vehicle burglary. Border patrol officials say he will not be extradited at this time.

“Criminal gang members like this man pose dangers to both our agents and our communities,” said Assistant Chief Patrol David Kim. “Thankfully our agents were able to apprehend him without incident, keeping our communities safe.”

The man will be prosecuted for re-entry into the United States.
