Rollover causes heavy traffic on I-10 eastbound

Interstate 10 eastbound is heavily backed up due to a rollover accident near the Washington Street exit.

According to the California Highway Patrol, they originally received reports of a reckless driver on the I-10. When an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle went off of the roadway and overturned.

Fire personnel determined the driver was experiencing a diabetic episode.

The accident, which was reported at 2:51 p.m., is creating congestion from the Monterey Avenue exit in Palm Desert to the Washington Street exit, according to Caltrans.

The vehicle which rolled over appears to be a dark red SUV.

Two people were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to a Cal Fire public information officer.
