Windy Point residents dig out cars stuck in the mud

Windy Point residents came together to dig out three cars stuck in the mud. Neighbors started shoveling out the cars themselves before help arrived.

“This is crazy this neighborhood has never had anything like this,” said Roy Torres, a county truck driver.

Residents picked up their shovels and jumped in shoulder deep to help out neighbors who got stuck in yesterday’s storm.

“To get it that stuck like that it just sucks the trucks down so very difficult,” Torres said.

Flood waters soaked sand, sinking trucks deep down into the mud.

“The water kept coming and it wouldn’t stop, it just got worse,” said Luis Garrido, a resident of Windy Point.

Down the street, the road near the community turned into a river. Neighbors watched in awe, capturing the chaos on their cellphones. The day after there was a huge clean-up, raking and sweeping mud to make roads passable. It took several hours before residents were successful.

The incident stands as a testament to the community’s toughness and human spirit, no matter the disaster.

“I love that the community is coming together and helping each other out, at least from my point of view, that’s what life is about, helping each other out,”
