Snow blankets High Desert, causes closures, travel troubles

The High Desert is covered in snow. And the area not-particularly known for snowy conditions is reeling a bit from the inclement conditions.

The weather forced Morongo Unified School District schools to declare a snow day today, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Morongo Basin Station.

Additionally, State Route 62 was forced to be shut down from Hoopa Road to Pinion Drive heading up to Yucca Valley due to snow but has since reopened.

Both the Yucca Grade and the Morongo Grade are “open and clear” according to Desert Hot Springs Police Chief Dale Mondary.
