5K raising proceeds for fallen officer being held Saturday

Over 450 runners are set to participate in Saturday’s law enforcement 5K National Championship in Palm Springs.

Runners from all over the nation will gather at Ruth Hardy park at 8 a.m. to start the 3.10-mile run in honor of fallen officers and canines.

This is the fourth year the event has been held in the valley. Officials say the proceeds raised go towards a great cause.

“100% of the proceeds raised this year go towards the family of Ronil Singh of the Newman Police Department who was killed in the line of duty on December 26, 2018,” said Joe Cook, president of the Palm Springs Police Officers’ Association.

Singh was shot and killed while conducting a vehicle stop. He was 33 years old.

All runners who finish receive a medal and a t-shirt. If you’d like to participate, registration will be open at the park beginning at 6 a.m.
