La Quinta Middle School empowers students to ‘Say Something’

La Quinta Middle schoolers stood together Monday to “see something” and “say something.”

The goal of the program partnered with Sandy Hook Promise is to raise awareness for the warning signs and signals to prevent suicide or mass shootings.

The national nonprofit organization is led by several family members who had loved ones killed by gun violence at Sandy Hook Elementary school.

“Say Something” encourages students to know the signs and signals of someone wanting to hurt themselves or others, including the triggers or threats especially on social media.

Organizers say 80 percent of shooters told someone of their violent plan prior to completing it and 7 to 10 people who die by suicide told someone beforehand. The focus is to listen up, speak up and get help.
