Road repairs after desert deluge
Construction continues on Cathedral Canyon at the wash.
Part of the road was ripped from its foundation as a raging river took over the street during a storm on Valentine’s Day.

The once popular road is now an inconvenience for some drivers.
“I’ve got to go all the way down 111 instead of straight down Dinah Shore and Dinah Shore angles off. It’s a short cut,” said Steve Sivage of Palm Springs.
News Channel 3’s News Drone 3 captured a bird’s eye view of the damage left behind at Cathedral Canyon at the wash.
Concrete slabs, boulders, mud and branches are still litering the street.
Further west, the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway also remains closed.
“We were planning to go up recently, but it [the Tramway] closed, so we were like, ‘Aw man’,” said Kelsey Carroll visiting from Banning, CA.
The road leading up to the Tram is expected to be repaired by the end of the week, according to staff with the Tramway. The attraction is tentatively reopening April 1.
“Knowing that it’s going to reopen is exciting because now we can make definite plans to go up there,” said Sylvia Becerra of Palm Springs.
Tramway staff are also advising people not to hike Mount San Jacinto trails, because the state park is closed.
“Rangers aren’t even working the state park. We don’t want anyone accessing this road at this point due to safety reasons and these crews need time and space to get it done, so we can get it [the Tramway] open,” said Cara Youngman, a public affairs manager for the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway.
