Internet rumor of threat to CCHS ‘unsubstantiated’
The Palm Springs Unified School District on Sunday sent an email to parents of students at Cathedral City High School, informing them that the district had become aware of a rumored threat against CCHS, circulating on social media.
The Assistant Principal of Cathedral City High School told News Chanel 3 Monday that the rumors of a threat were all unsubstantiated following a joint police and school investigation.
We are told the message indicated that an incident would occur Monday morning, March 4th at the school.
This is the message the district sent to parents:
“Hello CCHS families. This is Principal Guillermo Chavez. We wanted to take a moment to address a social media rumor regarding a potential safety threat at our school tomorrow morning . As soon as we became aware of a posting earlier this evening that rumored harm, we contacted Cathedral City Police and have been working with them to determine the originator of the posting. We are confident that we have been able to do that and are addressing the matter. We will also have increased security and police presence in and around the school tomorrow morning as an added precaution. The safety of our students and our staff is our number one priority. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding, and please remind your children to report anything they see or hear that does not look or feel right.”
News Channel 3 will continue to closely monitor this story, and any related developments, and will pass along any additional information as it becomes available.
