Massages offered for donors at Rancho Mirage blood drive

The thirteenth desert blood drive in a week will be held today in response to low blood supplies.

Between last Saturday and today, 12 blood drives will have been hosted across the desert. Wilson Meade, a commercial real estate company focussed on the the Coachella Valley, will host the 13th drive, which starts at 10 a.m. at 72100 magnesia Falls Drive, Suite #2, said Don Escalante of LifeStream.

“The community blood supply remains low,” Escalante said last month. “All assistance in getting the word out is appreciated.”

Participating donors will receive a complimentary 1-hour massage courtesy of Gamble Chiropractic and a chance to win a pair of tickets to “Tarzan,” the musical at the California Theatre for the Performing Arts in San Bernardino if they mention the code “TARZAN” at registration.

Free cholesterol screenings will also be offered until the end of the drive at 3 p.m., Escalante said.

Donors must be at least 15 years of age, though donors under 18 must provide written parental consent. Parent consent forms are available at the drive or at www.LStream.org.

Prospective donors must be free of infections or illness, weigh at least 110 pounds and not be at risk for AIDS or hepatitis.
