CalFire and Desert X investigating damage to burned art exhibit
People are disappointed after one Desert X exhibit near the Salton Sea reportedly disappeared.
The exhibit “Halter” by artist Eric Mack featured a deserted gas station draped in colorful Missoni fabrics.
But according to a CalFire representative on scene today, the exhibit was burned. The executive director of Desert X was also on scene today evaluating the damage.
“It’s really surprising so far we’ve had a really positive reaction to all of the exhibits and we feel that they’re very supported by the communities out here we do this for the public all of the exhibits are free and accessible to everyone so when one of them goes missing like this it’s very disappointing,” said Jenny Gil, executive director, Desert X.
Charred remnants of the fabric remain scattered on the ground. Riverside County Sheriffs say an investigation into the act of vandalism has been opened and they are looking for the public’s help. Anyone with information should contact the Thermal Sheriff’s Station.
