Construction begins on Coachella Senior Center expansion

Construction on improvement at a Coachella senior center began Monday.

The work at the Eleanor Senior Center will see the remodeling of the bathroom and more parking. Officials tell News Channel 3 the $2 million project is being paid for with revenue from Measure U. That is the one percent sales tax hike passed by voters in 2014.

“We’ve been waiting for this day for quite a while and we are just expecting this to go by quickly. We are pretty crowded inside, everyone’s excited, I’m excited,” said Maria Arcos, coordinator for the center.

The senior center will remain open during construction. The expansion is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.
