CCHS symphony band prepares for performance at Carnegie Hall

Cathedral City High School’s symphony band is just over a week away from taking the stage at the historic Carnegie Hall for the Sounds of Spring International Music Festival.

“All of the kids that are in the band have never been to New York City before, so it’s going to be a very exciting trip for them to even just go to a different part of the country,” said Matt Howe, CCHS director of bands.

Howe said they will perform three pieces that they’ve been practicing since the school year began. This is the first time since 2007 that the band has auditioned and been selected to go to New York.

“I’m just excited to fulfill my dream of playing at Carnegie Hall and just traveling and playing music,” said Janette Siahon, first chair oboe.

“It’s not something that a lot of people can say they’ve gotten to do,” said Trinity Reyes, first chair bassoon.

The trip costs $2,000 per person. Students have been saving and fundraising since last year. If you are interested in supporting the band, you can donate to their nonprofit booster club .
