Music manager arrested for rape at Indio hotel
A music manager accused of rape is free on bail after being arrested over the weekend in at an Indio hotel.
On July 20 at 4:25 a.m., Indio Police officers responded to the Quality Inn Suites located at 84096 Indio Springs Parkway after they received a report of a sexual assault that occurred at the location.
When officers arrived, they spoke with the female victim who said that she had traveled back to the hotel with a group of people that she met at a night club in Coachella. At the hotel, she was sexually assaulted by a suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Freddy Perez, a resident of Santa Maria.
Perez is the former manager of Roberto Tapia, one of the most popular performers in Mexican regional music . According to a post on Tapia’s Instagram page, Perez was no longer representing Tapia as of May 24, 2019.
Perez was also working as the booking agent for the band “Enigma Norteo,” according to a statement by the band. “Enigma Norteo” performed at “Mi Lindo Sinaloa,” a nightclub in Coachella on Friday, July 19.
Indio PD did not name the nightclub the victim was at prior to the sexual assault.
Officers were able to identify Perez as the suspect via the victim’s information and evidence, according to Indio PD. Perez was taken into custody without incident at 5:35 a.m. He was later booked into the John J. Benoit Detention Center on $55,000 bail where he was released the next day.
Perez faces one felony charge of rape by force/fear, according to county jail records. He is set to appear in court at the Larson Justice Center on September 18.
