Izzy Ramirez taken to the hospital after suffering a seizure
Rancho Mirage High School student and football player Israel "Izzy" Ramirez has been taken to the hospital due to seizures, a family friend told News Channel 3 Friday afternoon.
We're continuing to stay in touch with his family and will bring you any updates on his progress.
Izzy is well known around the community for his inspirational recovery following a sudden non-football related brain injury he sustained back in October 2019, right in the middle of his football season.
Izzy underwent multiple brain surgeries, including one where doctors replaced a portion of his skull that had to be removed in earlier procedures.
While he has had some setbacks since December, he has was making good strides in his recovery.
When we checked in with Izzy back in May, he was doing well, no longer requiring physical therapy.
“I’ve been going on a lot of hikes, I’ve been walking, I go on at least three walks every day and I’ve been doing recreation at the parks around here,” Izzy told News Channel 3's Taylor Begley back in May.
The community has come together all the way to support Izzy and his family through this ordeal, helping him stay active and positive. It's something his family has attributed to his continued recovery.
"Prayers from the community, of course," Stallworth said. "You name it, everyone… it’s not just us," said Izzy's brother, James Stallworth, told Taylor back in May.
