Getting a clear view of the meteor showers requires people to get away from light pollution which is why many flocked to the park.
Traffic was stagnant eastbound on Highway 62 leading up to the park as people tried to take in the spectacular sight last night.
The traffic prompted the official Joshua Tree National Park Service Twitter account to post the following tweet:
Park representatives are advising that people consider watching the shower at another location or from home going forward.
