New beverage recycling options coming to Coachella Valley part of statewide program
CalRecycle has awarded nearly $70 million in grants for new recycling methods across the state, including reverse vending machines, mobile recycling and bag-drop sites, known as the Beverage Container Redemption Innovation Grant Program.
Riverside County can expect reverse vending machines and bag-drop sites. There are two recipients of the grant in the county:
- Smart&Final
- Healing Rhythms in Desert Hot Springs
Over the last decade, the state has lost half its bottle recycling centers, leaving people fewer opportunities to get their CRV charges back.
The state's beverage container recycling rate goal is 80%. CalRecycle reported the rate to be 70% in 2023.
