Insider Blog: The hottest 12-month streak on record

November 2022 through October 2023 came in as the hottest 12-month streak on record, according to Climate Central. Here, you can see how many days various areas around the globe experienced a CSI of 3 or higher. This means that climate change has made warmer temperatures at least 3x more likely. About 90% of the world's population, that's roughly 7.3 billion people, experienced at least 10 days with warmer temperatures strongly influenced by climate change. Climate Central also found that carbon pollution has led to a higher frequency and intensity of heat waves across the globe.

Above, you can see a graphic showing the trend of warming global temperatures, along with the relative strength of the corresponding El Nino/La Nina event.
