First Alert Weather Alert: Stronger winds arrive

Blowing sand and dust has impacted parts of the Coachella Valley throughout the day. We will continue to monitor air quality through this evening as the winds taper off.

While winds will continue to diminish throughout the evening, some lingering breezes or gusts are possible. Today, Palm Springs saw a gust of 45 MPH. This was the highest for the valley floor, but Morongo Valley saw a gust of 47 MPH.

An Air Quality Alert remains in place through 6 PM this evening as the lofted dust starts to settle and because of any lingering winds. Check airnow.gov for the latest air quality data for your location.

A Winter Weather Advisory will be in place from 6 PM Thursday through 6 PM Friday. Moisture content will fairly quickly rise back up to more normal levels, allowing for a few inches of snow to accumulate above 6,500 feet. Winds may also gust upwards of 40 MPH.

As the offshore pattern weakens, moisture levels will return to normal. This, combined with the lingering counterclockwise flow will lead to a slight chance for rain tomorrow. Accumulation will not be significant. We will warm back up into the 70s for this weekend and into the 80s for next week.
