Family still searching for answers a month into Erika Lloyd’s disappearance

The search continues for missing Walnut Creek woman, Erika Ashley Lloyd last seen leaving the the Walnut Creek area Sunday June 14th for a road trip to Joshua Tree National Park. 

"We know we are not the only family that has gone through this," said Ruth Lloyd.

Ruth Lloyd sheds a tear as one month goes by since her daughter, Erika Lloyd disappeared.

"She seemed like she was fine, " said Lloyd. "Being lockdown for almost three months not being able to work and she was trying to home school her son, it was starting to get to her the pressure and not having any income."

Her 12 year old son is also hoping that his mom returns.

"Are you calling about my mom? Are you talking to people? Wayne would say yeah we are trying to find your mom," said Lloyd. "So he misses her."

Lloyd was traveling to Joshua Tree National Park to camp when her family said they lost contact with her on June 16th.

And that same day, California Highway Patrol found Lloyd's car abandoned near Highway 62 near Twentynine Palms.

Lloyd's family tells News Channel 3 they believe Erika's car was involved in a car accident before it was abandoned on Shelton Road.

"We don't know if she had some memory loss when she got hit by the airbag," said Lloyd. "Maybe she doesn't know who she is, we don't know, we aren't sure about her mental stage."

Her parents are now furthering their search efforts by working with Doug Billings, a cave and mine expert, who helped find 19-year old Erin Corwin.

After extensive searching, Corwin's body was found down a mine near Joshua Tree in 2014.

"In this case, I know the area particularly from the Erin Corwin's search," said Doug Billings. "But its the same general area just a little less isolated than Erin's case."

Billings says he's has spent more than 20 hours in search of signs of Lloyds disappearance. 

"We hiked up and down the washes and canyons that are at the foothill of the mountains there."

He's using a special map program to retrace her steps.

"I did find one person who saw Erika's description walking down 62 with another person a week after she went missing," said Billings.

"We both feel like that she could still be out here, she could be with people, somebody could have taken her in," said Wayne Lloyd, father of Erika Lloyd. "We are hopeful as of this time the sheriff's department hasn't seen anything negative."
