CAL FIRE Firefighter Sara Thomas honored with run-walk, sculpture dedication

The community will be coming together to honor CAL FIRE firefighter Sara Thomas Tuesday morning. Last year, Thomas lost her battle with stage four terminal cancer.

She was given a full procession through the Coachella Valley for a funeral service and eventually her final resting place at the Coachella Valley Cemetery.

We last spoke with Thomas about two years ago at a charity golf event in Indian Wells that raised money for her cancer battle. Fellow firefighters remembered her as a highly valued and respected member of the team.

The run-walk is happening on what would have been Thomas’s 43rd birthday.

The run is open to the public. Anyone wanting to take part can begin meeting at station 86 at 9:15 a.m. That’s located at 46-990 Jackson Street in Indio. Parking will be in the dirt lot behind the fire station. The run-walk will begin at 10 a.m. and will go south on Jackson Street to visit Sara’s grave at the Coachella Valley Cemetery on Jackson and Ave 52.

There will also be a barbecue and sculpture dedication at 1 p.m. at station 80 in north Indio. That’s located at 81025 Ave 40 Indio, CA. Station 80 was where Thomas was last posted before she passed away.
