Idyllwild’s Annual Tree Lightening set to be Merry and Bright
The 59th annual tree lighting ceremony held on Saturday, November 30th at Idy Park promises to be extra special this year.
In honor of all the roads to Idyllwild now being open, the city decided to light up eight trees in the Idy Park rather than lighting only a single tree as it has been done in the past. The tree lighting would not be possible without the financial sponsorship of several local businesses and organizations. The Idyllwild Community Center (ICC) will be lighting all eight trees in the park.
Another change from last year is that all of the booths around the park will be hosted by local non-profit and community organizations in hopes to encourage visitors to do their holiday shopping at Idyllwild's local businesses. This is important to the Idyllwild community since there was a struggle to attract customers with the recent road closures.
Similar to last year, the Tree Lighting Ceremony will showcase three entertainment stages with local talent, including Woodburn and Gary Evans, as well as off-the-Hill holiday vocal quartet, the Desert Carolers. Plus, Doug Austin will continue the annual tradition of reading The Night Before Christmas to children of all ages.
Lastly, attendees can visit Santa. Along with Santa being at the event, there will be cookie decorating courtesy of the Soroptimists. This year ICC will also have a special "paint your own ornament" activity for children, allowing them to create a keepsake of this wonderful traditional family holiday event.
