Police determine suspicious device as false alarm
A suspicious device found near the 300 block of East Arenas Road was determined to be a false alarm Sunday.
Police were first alerted about the device at 10:30 a.m. by a Hotel Zoso worker. Officers found the device behind a business complex.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Hazardous Device Team was called in and later determined that it was not a danger.
The device turned out to be a geocaching container attached by magnets to the power box, according to police.
Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunting game played using GPS devices. According to the game’s website, players use a smartphone or GPS to locate hidden containers, called geocaches.
During the investigation, police closed off Calle Encilia, between Arenas Road and Tahquitz Canyon Way, but roads are back open.
