Valley’s unemployment rate is up while state numbers drop

New numbers on unemployment show more Californians found jobs last month but that trend didn’t include Riverside County.

The state’s jobless rate dropped to 6.2 percent in July, down slightly from 6.3 percent in June. However the unemployment rate for Riverside County rose to 7.3 percent, up from 6.6 percent in June.

Officials point out that the higher number for our county is still two percentage points lower than it was this time last year.

Nationally, the employment rate remained at 5.3 percent, the lowest rate since the recession.
