Palm Springs International Airport adds ‘Clear’ Kiosks to help with quicker check-in times

Palm Springs International Airport is introducing a new tool that's helping passengers check into their flights faster.

Daniel Meier, Deputy Director of Marketing, tell News Channel 3 how this will help east wait times at the airport, especially during festival season.

"With Coachella coming up this weekend, and how busy we’ve been at the airport. It gives them another option to speed through security, and kind of cut through the front of the line, and make it to the plane a little bit faster than they normally would," says Meier.

Access to the lanes is provided through the company 'Clear.'

The compact 'Clear' kiosks will verify passengers' identities by scanning their eyes and fingerprints.

In order to use 'Clear' booths at the airport and skip boarding lanes, people are required to sign up for a $15 montly membership either at the airport or online.

I spoke to a passenger who was excited to use the service at Palm Springs International Airport, "That's the fastest way through, even if you’re Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, 'Clear' seems to be even faster than that," says Daniel Baldwin.

Mayor Lisa Middleton was the first person to sign up as a 'Clear' member in Palm Springs.

Middleton tells News Channel 3, she believes this partnership will continue to create a positive experience for almost 5 million people who visit the Coachella Valley every year.

"This just makes it easier and reinforces that Palm Springs International Airport is one of the least stressful airports you will ever visit," says Middleton.

'Clear' kiosks are also available at select stadiums and airports throughout the country to assist with quicker check-in times.

The launch is creating about 17 new jobs at Palm Springs International Airport.

Ambassadors will be available during check-in operating hours to help enroll passengers.
