Hikers Stranded, Rescued Near Palm Springs Tram

Twohikers are safe after spending the night up in the mountains.

One of the hikers called the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Sunday evening to report getting lost.

They were up near the top of the Palm Springs Tram, where there is aboutfour feet of snow.

Rescue crews found the hikers overnightbut decided to wait until morning to come back down.

The men say they were prepared to hike all day, but realized they hadn’t gotten far enough by the time the sun set.

“We hiked to the point of the snow line, and, somewhere after the snow line, we’d lost the trail,” explained one of the hikers, who did not want to be indentified. “It was buried in snow. When the sun went behind the mountain, I knew we were in trouble”

They came back to the Valley floor around 7 Monday morning, where an ambulance was waiting to examine the hikers. Both were reportedly in good condition.
