Data: College Degree Doesn’t Guarantee Job Hiring, Security

NewsChannel 3goes into the numbers to take a look at the changing face of unemployment. People who never thought they would be out of work now are.

More men than women are unemployed.

The number of men who lost jobs during the third quarter of 2008 jumped more than 14 percent. The number of women looking for work during the same time rose slightly more than 10-and-a-half percent.

Unemployment is highest among men ages 45 to 54.

It jumped from just over 12 percent in the beginning of 2008 to 23-and-a-half percent in the later part of the year.

And having a college degree doesn’t guarantee you a job or guarantee you can keep a job.

The jobless rate among college graduates jumped nearly 28 percent during the months of July, August, and September of 2008.
