Agents Seize $850,000 Worth Of Meth At Border

NILAND, Calif. – Agents working at the Indio Border Patrol checkpoint station on Highway 111 seized more than 26 pounds of methamphetamine, last night.

Canine units signaled something was wrong when a red luxury sedan entered the checkpoint, prompting agents to conduct a more thorough exam.

A scan of the car using a large-scale imaging system revealed 12 vacuum-sealed bags of what turned out to be meth hidden under the spare tire in the trunk.

The driver of the vehicle was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

In the few months since the fiscal year began on Oct. 1, 2009, the El Centro Sector has already surpassed last fiscal year’s total amount seized of heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine.
