Firing Guns At New Years Could Land You In Jail
PALM SPRINGS -Palm Springs police warned residents today not to celebrate the new year by firing their guns in the air.
The department will increase patrols and anyone caught discharging a firearm during the New Year’s holiday will be arrested and could be charged with a felony, said Officer Melissa Desmarais of the Palm Springs Police Department.
The department maintains a zero tolerance policy against shooting firearms into the air in order to reduce the number of injuries and deaths from stray bullets, Desmarais said.
Police also reminded residents planning on drinking alcohol to designate a driver to ensure a safe and legal drive home.
Officers will be conducting extra DUI enforcement throughout the city and anyone suspected of driving under the influence will be arrested, according to Desmarais.
