Recent Armed Break-In Prompts Warning
PALM SPRINGS – “It was a popping noise when they hit the glass,” says Sean Thibodeau.
Thibodeau woke up to Sunday morning to the sound of armed burglars breaking in.
“In a matter of seconds, they were up these stairs and I could hear this very very loud sounds,” says Thibodeau.
He didn’t know how safe he’d be in his room, so decided to face the home invaders. One of them had a gun.
“I wasn’t going to wait in my room and be passive, so I, with nothing but my TV remote control, pretending it was a gun decided to charge them,” says Thibodeau.
The would-be thieves fell down the stairs and ran off without taking anything. But the part-time Palm Springs resident did lose a couple nights of sleep.
He admits he was naïve to think a robbery couldn’t happen at his affluent condo complex. He hopes his story will inspire others to protect themselves the way he should have.
Thibodeau says there’s a number of ways to protect your home without buying a gun. It includes getting security dog, having a protected room or if you have the money, getting a remote panic button to alert the authorities if someone breaks in.
Thibodeau added a wooden support to his bedroom door and a wireless panic button. He also recommends security system and keeping a weapon close-by.
Because, if anything, the extra security will give you piece of mind. Something Thibodeau lost during the burglary.
“I’m a agile, fairly young guy that can protect himself somewhat. Imagine this 72 year old woman alone,” says Thibodeau.
The suspects face burglary and possession of a firearm during a felony charges. If you have any information, call police.
