Earthquake Early Warning System Looks To Prevent Tragedy
PALM DESERT -JustMonday nightKESQ brought you breaking news coverage on a 4.3 quake in the Banning area.
We’re the only local station with our own seismograph”Seismo 3.”
And we’re part of a new early earthquake warning system here in the desert.
The “CREWS” quake system is already in place at local fire departments and it’s being expanded to schools throughout the valley, and to theKESQ studios in Palm Desert.
If we were having a major earthquake, theCREWS system would give 15 to 20 seconds warningfor thousands of school children to drop, cover and hold-onbefore the shaking starts.
You can get more information on the “CREWS” systemand how you can help support it here.
