‘State Of Emergency’ Declared In Wake Of Storms

SACRAMENTO -Acting Gov. Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency in Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside counties in response to the storms that have pounded the region over the past four days. Brown, the state attorney general, is acting governor while Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is in Washington, D.C.

The storms have inundated the Coachella Valley, causing flooding, closing roads, and shutting down schools that lost power.

The state of emergency clears the way for state help to the affected areas in rebuilding and rehabilitation.

In addition, Riverside County issued a proclamation of local emergency today in response to the series of storms this week. The county’s Emergency Operations Center was activated at its lowest level to monitor storm-related activity and the activation level is not expected to increase. County personnel and public safety teams are ready to respond as needed.
