Plane Fell Rapidly Before Crashing Into Mountain

JOSHUA TREE – Investigators have released new information in a report on a plane crash in Joshua Tree National Park.

Investigators say the Cessna quickly fell hundreds of feetbefore crashing into a mountain on January 18th.

A student pilot and instructor were both seriously hurt.

According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the planewas flying at 6,100 feet when the pilottold air traffic controllers they were heading to Palm Springs.

Moments later, the plane dropped 500 feet and disappeared from radar.

Rescuers found the crash site later that night at an elevation of 5,000 feet.

Investigators still haven’t determined an official cause for the crash,but say the mountain was covered by clouds.
