Red Flag Warning goes into effect in Palm Springs area
A red flag warning is scheduled to go in effect Monday in the mountains of Riverside County, reflecting fears of wildfire conditions.
The red flag warning will be in effect from noon Monday to 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service, which issues such warnings when strong winds, low humidity and warm temperatures combine.
“A low pressure system moving eastward through the Great Basin will bring stronger onshore flow,” according to an NWS advisory. “This will bring strong gusty west winds with low humidities for the deserts and along the desert slopes of the mountains.”
During the red flag warning, mountain residents can expect 15 to 25 mile per hours winds, gusting up to 55 mph. Lowest daytime humidity will be around 5 percent, according to the Weather Service.
Temperatures today are expected to peak in the mid-90s.
