Driver hits jogger and house before dying

A man is dead after crashing his car into a home in Palm Desert early Friday morning.

Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the area of a traffic collision that occurred at Tennessee Ave and Kentucky Ave around 6:20 this morning.

Deputies say a jogger was hit by a grey pickup truck, and then the driver crashed into a boulder in the front yard of a residence on California Ave.

The driver then continued on before he struck a Mazda Sedan and then crashed into the side of a home at the corner of Tennessee and Kentucky.

The crash impact also ruptured a natural gas line at the home.

A witness to the crash contacted the driver and assisted getting him out of the crashed car, the male then went into cardiac arrest and the witness began CPR.

The driver, a 62 year old La Quinta man, was taken to the hospital where he later died.

The jogger who was first struck was also taken to a local hospital and treated for her injuries.

The exact cause of the chain of events are still being investigated at this time.

No one in the home was injured.
