Grand reopening for Palm Desert Libary
A grand reopening will be held today to celebrate the completion of a $3.8 million renovation project at the Palm Desert Library.
People can tour the library after the 10 a.m. ceremony, which will highlight new computers, a self checkout system, young adult area and new roof, carpet, furniture, paint, restrooms and energy-saving indoor light fixtures, according to Supervisor John Benoit’s office.

Hundreds of new DVDs and CDs and 1,500 new juvenile books were purchased from the county library fund, according to Benoit’s office.
The library, which was built 17 years ago, reopened to the public on Jan. 22. It is the second busiest of 34 branches in the county library system and serves more than 20,000 people a month, according to Benoit’s office. During renovations, the library operated at a temporary location at Westfield mall in Palm Desert.
