Smurr Street mural in Indio to be unveiled today

The city will unveil and dedicate a mural on Smurr Streettoday.

The ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the mural site — the north wallof a building at 45-125 Smurr St. Denver muralist David Ocelotl Garcia, theartist, is expected to attend, city spokesman Chris Escobedo said.

The mural represents Indio’s past, present and future “while reflectingthe city’s rich heritage through vibrant colors,” Escobedo said.

It’s the first mural commissioned by the city of Indio. The city hasseven other other murals, which were initiated by the Indio Chamber of Commerceand supported by community members. The most recent mural was installed in2002, Escobedo said.
