Police standoff in Rancho Mirage is over

Sheriff deputies continue to surround a house in Rancho Mirage after they got a report of a man with a gun.

They got the call around 3:30 this afternoon from the area of Biskra Rd and Magnesia Falls Rd in Rancho Mirage. Sheriff’s Department says when they got on scene they tried to make contact with someone at a home on Biskra Road.

It is unclear why officers on scene are trying to get this man to come out of his home. They have been trying for over an hour now to get the man to come out.

As a precaution deputies have closed down Biskra Road with crime tape. We will continue to monitor this and bring you any developments as they happen.

Update (5:17 p.m.): The suspect surrendered at around 5:15 p.m. after many attempts to get him to come outside. Why, exactly, he refused to come out until now is not known.

Update (5:40 p.m.):The man in a standoff today at a home on Biskra Rd reportedly showed a gun to a resident in the area. The resident called police, and when they went to question the man in the home, he refused to come out.

It took several hours to get the man to surrender, but he did finally come out. He is currently being looked at on scene by medical personnel as a precaution. It is not known if he will be arrested at this time.
