Twentynine Palms man arrested on elder abuse charges
A Twentynine Palms man suspected of trying to rob an olderwoman in Mecca was behind bars today.
Dennis Delgado Moralez, 39, was arrested at Seventh Street and Date Palmarrested about 3:20 p.m. Sunday, about an hour after the attempted robberywas reported in the 91-000 block of Fourth Street, according to the RiversideCounty Sheriff’s Department and jail records.
Moralez drove to the home, allegedly brandished a handgun and demandedmoney from an elderly woman, sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Tapp said.
Deputies, who spotted Moralez in the front yard, saw him run throughsome backyards and soon captured him and recovered a gun, Tapp said.
Moralez was booked into the county jail in Indio on suspicion ofattempted robbery and elder abuse. He was being held in lieu of $75,000 bail, according to jail records.
