Deadly accident in Thousand Palms closes Varner Road
A motorist is dead after a car crashed into a light pole in Thousand Palms early Saturday morning.
It happened just after 3 am at the intersection of Bob Hope Drive and Varner Road just north of I-10.
The California Highway Patrol identified the driver as 21 year old, Nydia Davila.
Officers say Davila lost control of her car for unknown reasons and struck a power pole. She was wearing a seat belt.
The California Highway Patrol says power lines are across Varner Road and blocking traffic in both directions
Varner Road was closed for several hours from Date Palm to Bob Hope.
Southern California Edison says no power outages were caused.
Police believe the driver was under the influence.
