Moreno Valley mayor eager to testify in corruption probe
The mayor of Moreno Valley says he’s eager to be interviewed as part of a corruption probe involving city leaders.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports that Mayor Tom Owings says he has reason to believe a grand jury will begin collecting testimony Wednesday.
Owings says he will appear on the steps of the federal court building at 9 a.m. ready to answer questions.
Last week a task force of federal and local agents served search warrants at Owings’ home, as well as at the homes of all four other council members and a real estate agent. They also raided a developer’s office near City Hall.
Prosecutors say the raids involved a criminal investigation of possible influence-peddling, campaign violations and political corruption.
Owings says he has not retained a criminal attorney.
