Mastercard scam puts people on alert

A viewer contacted KESQ & CBS Local 2 Thursday morning saying someone who claimed to work for MasterCard called asking for her credit card information.

The person said her MasterCard was locked and she needed to provide her 16 digit credit card number in order to unlock the card.

Luckily, she didn’t have a MasterCard so she hung up.

She told us she called MasterCard immediately afterwards and company officials told her it was a scam.

Moments later, her friend contacted her and said she received the same call. So the scammer appears to be contacting several people in the area Thursday morning.

This viewer lives in Desert Hot Springs but everyone in the Coachella Valley should be wary of anybody making this same phone call, especially if you actually have a MasterCard.

Company officials said you should obviously not give out your credit information to anyone making this phone call, and you should hang up immediately.
